WE BELIEVE THAT . . .

1. THE SCRIPTURES - The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, excluding the Apocrypha, have their authority in God alone. In the original manuscripts they are inerrant in their entirety and were given by divine, verbal, plenary inspiration. They are the only perfect, supreme, infallible and sufficient standard of faith and practice. II Peter 1:20, 21; II Timothy 3: 16, 17.

2. GOD - God is the one and only true and living, Supreme Being. He is Spirit: infinite, eternal, self - existent, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, immutable, good, wise, just, and merciful. He is the Creator, Sustainer and Sovereign of the universe. He is inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all honour, confidence and love. In the Godhead there are three persons in one -- the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections, and who execute distinct harmonious offices in the great work of redemption. John 4:24; I Kings 8:27; I Timothy 6:16, 17; Exodus 3:14; Psalm 139: 7-12; Job 42:4; Revelation 19:6; James 1:17; Luke 18:18; Romans 16:26, 27; Genesis 18:25; James 5:11.

3. JESUS CHRIST - Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, the Creator of all, is the person of the Trinity who was born of a virgin, taking on a human body with a sinless human nature. His perfect life, sacrificial death, burial and resurrection fully satisfied God's just demands to be the world's Redeemer and Saviour of all who believe. He is at present enthroned at the right hand of the Father as the Advocate and the Intercessor for all of His people and He is the Judge of all. Philippians 2:5-8; John 19:30; I Peter 3:18; I Timothy 4:10; I John 2:1; John 5:21, 22; John 1:1.

4. THE HOLY SPIRIT - The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, who is the Divine Agent in both revelation and redemption. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. At the time of salvation he regenerates, indwells, baptizes, seals, anoints and bestows gifts on all who become children of God through Christ. He further empowers, guides, teaches, sanctifies, and fills believers as they surrender and submit themselves to Him. The sign gifts such as speaking in tongues and healing were given to initiate and to confirm the gospel message to the early church and they are no longer bestowed or necessary today. John 16:8, 13; Titus 3:5; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 4:30; I John 2:27; Acts 1:8; Acts 13:2; John 14:26; II Thessalonians 2:13; Ephesians 5:18; Mark 16:20; I Corinthians 13:8-10; Romans 15: 18, 19.

5. STATE AND FALL OF MAN - Man was created in the image of God for His glory, to show forth His praise, and for fellowship with Himself for time and eternity. By Adam's disobedience, he became a sinner separated from God. This separation resulted in death and a totally depraved nature which has been transmitted to the whole human race (except for the Man Christ Jesus). Homosexuality is not a hereditary result but a chosen lifestyle and therefore is sin and thus disqualifies such individuals, still practising this lifestyle, from employment or membership of this church. Genesis 1:26,27; Isaiah 43:7-21; Genesis 3:6,11,13; Psalm 51:5; Ephesians 2:1-3; Romans 5:12; Hebrews 4:15; Jude 5 - 7.

6. ATONEMENT - Atonement is the sacrificial and redemptive work of Christ which satisfied the just demands of a Holy God (propitiation) for the pardon of a repentant sinner (reconciliation). I John 2:2; Romans 3:24, 25; Ephesians 2:16.

7. REPENTANCE - Repentance is a sinner turning from his sin to God by apprehending the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and following in obedience to His Word. It is the result of a sinner seeing his sin, and then grieving over and hating his sin as an offense against a Holy God. John 16:8-11; Job 42:5,6; I John 3:9; I Thessalonians 1:9; John 14:21.

8. FAITH - Saving faith is the sincere belief in God as revealed in His Word which results in the act of trusting Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." The life of a believer is transformed as he/she exercises sanctifying faith. Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:6.

9. REGENERATION - Regeneration is the one-time work of God through the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation. The one who exercises faith in Jesus Christ by the Word of God receives a new nature capable of doing the will of God. The sinner becomes a new creation in Christ Jesus. The evidence of regeneration is the desire to live a holy life. Titus 3:5; John 1:13; II Corinthians 5:17; James 1:21; I John 3:7.

10. JUSTIFICATION - Justification is the act of God whereby He imputes the perfect righteousness of Christ to the repentant sinner and declares him absolved of all sin and guilt. Romans 3:24; 5:1; 8:1, 33-35; James 2:23.

11. SANCTIFICATION - Sanctification is the act of God by which, according to His will, Christians are made partakers of His holiness (positional sanctification). It begins in regeneration. It is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the continual use of the Word of God, prayer, self-examination, self-denial, and watchfulness (progressive sanctification). Hebrews 12:10; Ephesians 4:24; II Corinthians 3:18; I Corinthians 11:28, 29, 31; I John 3:3.

12. THE LORD'S DAY - The Lord's Day is the first day of the week, a day set apart from the normal activity of life. The Christian is expected to engage in public worship, fellowship, and the presentation of tithes and offerings. At all times he is to refrain from any activity which would cause a fellow believer to stumble or an unbeliever to question his testimony. Rom 14:13-21.

13. THE LOCAL CHURCH - The Local Church is an autonomous congregation of born again, baptized believers governed by God's Word, joined together for the purpose of encouragement, exaltation, exhortation, evangelization and equipping. The ministry is prospered by the proper use of the believers’ spiritual gifts and the leadership of pastors and deacons. The office of Pastor(s) is reserved for qualified men only. The church practices two ordinances, the Lord's Supper and Believer's Baptism. Acts 6:3; Matthew 28:19, 20; John 4:24; I Corinthians 14:3; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 14:12; I Peter 5: 1-2; I Timothy 3:8; I Timothy 3:1 - 7; I Corinthians 11:13-32; Acts 8: 36, 37.

14. BAPTISM - Baptism is an ordinance of the local church whereby in obedience to the Lord's command a believer gives testimony by being immersed in water. It is symbolic of death to the old nature and being raised to new life in Christ. Romans 6:1-4; Galatians 2:20; Matthew 28:19, 20.

15. THE LORD'S SUPPER - The Lord's Supper is an ordinance of the local church whereby the believer is commanded to partake of the two emblems representing the body and blood of Christ. All believers are to examine themselves before partaking of the Lord's Table. I Corinthians 11:23-32; Matthew 5:23, 24; 26:26-30.

16. DEATH - Physical death is the separation of the body from the soul and spirit. The believer enters the presence of God awaiting the full redemption of his/her body. The wicked is cast into Hades to await the resurrection of his/her body until the Great White Throne Judgment. Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11-13; Daniel 12:2; II Corinthians 5:8; II Corinthians 5:8.

17. RESURRECTION - The resurrection is the raising from the dead the bodies of the just and of the unjust. The body of the believer will be glorified when body, soul and spirit are re-united in the presence of Christ. The re-united body, soul and spirit of the unbeliever will be cast into the Lake of Fire at the Great White Throne Judgment. Daniel 12:2; Philippians 3:21; Revelation 20:14.

18. JUDGMENT - There will be two judgments. Following the rapture of the church, every believer will appear at the Judgment Seat of Christ where his/her works will be made manifest and tried in order to determine whether reward will be received or loss suffered. II Corinthians 5:10; I Corinthians 3:13-15; Romans 14:10, 12.

At the Great White Throne Judgment, every unbeliever, being eternally condemned already, shall be judged according to his/her works to determine the degree of punishment which shall be received in the Lake of Fire. Revelation 20:12-15; 21:8.

19. SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER - The security of the believer means that all who are genuinely saved are kept saved forever because of Christ's work on the Cross, His unending intercession in heaven, the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, and the unchanging promises of God. Romans 8:1; Hebrews 7:25; I Corinthians 3:16; John 10:27-29; Romans 8:37-39.

20. THE RETURN OF CHRIST - The return of Christ is the imminent appearing of Christ in the clouds and is the next great event for the church. The dead in Christ, with the living believers, will be raptured (in glorified bodies) to be forever with the Lord. I Thessalonians 4: 13-18; I Corinthians 15:51, 52. At the end of the Great Tribulation, Christ will return to earth with His saints to establish His Kingdom over which He will reign in righteousness for one thousand years. Matthew 24:15-25, 46; Revelation 19:11-14; Revelation 20:1-3.
